Donation of Danchenko’s Etchings to the National Historical and Cultural Reserve Chyhyryn
Ten unique etchings (1953-54) by the outstanding Ukrainian graphic artist Oleksandr Danchenko, depict themes related to the Liberation War of the Ukrainian people against the Polish nobility from 1648 to 1654, as well as the People’s Heroes of Ukraine, and were donated to the Chyhyryn National Historical and Cultural Reserve.
In January 2002, Bogdan Gubsky donated 10 unique art works (etchings) by the Ukrainian graphic artist Oleksandr Danchenko to the Chyhyryn National Historical and Cultural Reserve’ s collection.
Museum visitors saw these two collections for the first time.
1. Liberation War of the Ukrainian people against Polish nobility within 1648 – 1654:
- At Zhovti Vody
- After the Battle of Korsun
- Defeat of the Polish army near Pylyava
- The feat of three hundred at Berestechko
- Bogdan [Khmelnytsky] over the bodies of Cossacks who died near Zborov
2. People’s Heroes of Ukraine, the portraits of:
- Bohdan Khmelnytsky
- Maxym Kryvonos
- Ivan Bohun
- Petro Doroshenko
- Danylo Nechay
According to experts, the artist personally visited all the battlefields of the Cossack army led by Bohdan Khmelnytsky in order to capture the spirit of the time.
